Wrestle Jam 2009[/glow]
August 25th: Day 2 - Night Show
Nippon Budokan in Tokyo, Japan
Non-Tournament BoutsBout #1:
Taz vs. Kengo Kimura
- Taz has looked good on this tour of Japan, but he knew he needed to preform well here on the last night of this mega-event. Taz opened with some early offense, but withstood Kimura's submission attempts and transitioned into a Tazmission for the win at 10:16.
Bout #2:
Strong Kobayashi vs. Toshiaki Kawada
- Kawada is still stinging from his loss earlier in the day, but he seemed especially focused as he and Kobayashi locked up. Kawada looked great here, as he never let up and used his Powerbomb to win at 11:07.
Bout #3:
Tatsumi Fujinami vs. Dos Caras
- Fujinami lost a heart-breaker to Kenta Kobashi in the semi-finals, but tonight he knows that he needs to be ready for a battle, because Dos Caras will not go easy on him. Caras started fast with some great shoulder tackles and dropkicks, but Fujinami used a failed turnbuckle ram to use a variety of suplexes to wear down Caras. Fujinami used his Dragon Suplex to win at 10:27.
Bout #4: DWA Mid-Atlantic Championship Match
Steve Corino vs. Verne Gagne
- Verne wasted no time turning up the heat on Corino, with his various amateur wrestling skills and was Corino in several bad situations. Corino was able to hold off the champion on a few attempts, but the Gagne Sleeper was too much at 12:10 to retain the gold.
Bout #5:
Tarzan Goto & Nathan Jones vs. Steve Blackman & Blue Demon
- These teams were not formed for any other reason except common enemies. Goto and Jones both have issues with Blackman, so they attacked him after Jones' first round lose. Blue Demon made the save because it was an unfair fight, not because he has any allegiance to Steve. Jones and Goto were accompanied to the ring by Duke Droese, who is Jones' regular tag team partner. Blackman and Demon looked great as a team throughout the bout, but their lack of size hurt some of their offense. Blackman laid a hurting on Jones, when he tagged in Demon. Goto rushed Blackman and they start battling on the mat. The ref is trying to push the two non-legal men out of the ring. Duke grabbed a chair and slid in the ring. Duke kicked Demon in the gut and went to hit him with the chair. Demon avoided the chair, which nailed Jones in the head. Demon chop-blocked Droese and delivered a modified DDT to drive him down and out of the ring. Demon jumps to the second ropes and springboards into a leg-drop to score the pin at 14:14 on Jones.
*After the match, Blackman and Demon leave the 3 men in the ring. Jones, who is bleeding from his head, and Goto start shoving Duke. Duke, whose knee seems to be hurting him after the chop-block, is trying to explain that he didn't mean to nail Jones. Jones and Goto start booting and pounding on him. Goto slaps on a figure four leg-lock, as Jones stomped on the knee as well. The referees came into the ring and finally got Goto and Jones to stop, but not before they hurt Droese's knee even more.
Bout #6: Elite Zero Tag Team Championship Match
Bam Bam Bigelow & CM Punk vs. Team Black (c)
- These two American stars have never teamed together, but they are hoping that their talents will mesh well here against Team Black. Bigelow worked well against Chono to open the bout, as both got in some solid offense. Bigelow and Punk made some quick tags and were able to keep Chono off-balance and score a near pinfall. Muta had enough of this and came into the ring. He kicked Punk right in the mouth, as the ref made him return to the apron. That was the turning point, as Chono made the tag and Muta turned the match in the champion's favor. Chono tagged back in and grabbed the ref, while Muta spit the green mist into Punk's face and then Muta body tackled Bigelow off the apron. Chono nailed his Yakuza Kick at 21:32 to retain the gold.
Bout #7:
Bruiser Brody & Jimmy Snuka vs. Abdullah the Butcher & Masa Saito
- This war broke out before anyone was even introduced. The rules have been relaxed here, as these 4 men have issues that need to be settled. The action did spill back into the ring after the refs were able to coax the men finally into the tag team match. The action went back and forth, until Brody and Abby go through the ropes and destroy everything at ringside. Saito and Snuka each grabbed chairs and took turns smashing the other in the head, as they battle up the ramp. The ref had not choice but to call for a no contest at 17:11. Actual security had to be called in to break-up these 4 men, as they started to spill into the crowd and the fan's safety was a concern.
Bout #8: Elite Zero Grand Championship Match
Triple H vs. Hiroyoshi Tenzan (c)
- Hunter is headed to RFA and he would love to return their with the Elite Zero Grand Championship around his waist. Tenzan, knowing this full well, knew that he had to be ready for anything. What unfolded was a great championship match, as both men had the other well scouted. Hunter nailed his Pedigree, but Tenzan was able to get his foot on the ropes to save the belt. Tenzan was able to answer with some hard kicks and a belly to back suplex allowed Tenzan to nail his Moonsault, but Hunter was able to sneak a shoulder out. The match went back and forth, until Tenzan nailed Hunter with a tombstone piledriver to retain the gold at 24:13.
Round #5: FinalsBout #9: Wrestle Jam 2009 Tournament Finals
Kenta Kobashi vs. Kensuke Sasaki
- Kenta and Kensuke both know how important this match is for their future title aspirations. While both men have had impressive runs here in this tournament, they both want to win the cup and the additional 100,000 yen bonus. Kenta opened with some good offense and nailed several spinning chops and then a huge Burning Lariat. Sasaki battled back using back-hand chops and his own lariat. Kenta nailed his Moonsault for a close 2-count, which he followed up with his half-nelson suplex. Sasaki bounced back up and fired back. Sasaki scored a near fall after his Northern Lights bomb and then another 2-count after his King Buster. Kenta fired up and started chopping Sasaki's chest at a blister inducing pace. Kenta nailed another Burning Lariat, but then quickly scooped up Sasaki and delivered a powerbomb into the turnbuckle. Kenta hooked the leg and scored the 3-count at 21:56 to win the match and the tournament. After the match, Sasaki looks disappointed, but shook Kenta's hand and presented him with the Wrestle Jam championship trophy. The fans showed their appreciation for both men, as this epic tournament comes to a close.
